Henpals - an online club for women

            

Welcome to you all - my name is Jenny. I am in my fifties now, so computers and the internet have come to me fairly late in life. I have to admit that I resisted this step into the modern world for as long as possible, but eventually my son, who was a teenager at the time, persuaded me that life was incomplete without a computer! I finally had to admit that there were some advantages, but it was with the arrival of the internet that I began to understand the enormous potential. Many things today would be just impossible without it - such as Henpals, which I hope will bring enjoyment to you all.

I live in a small town, having moved here several years ago. It has been difficult to create a social life, without having family or friends to introduce me to other people. My son was too old for me to meet other mothers at the school gate and most of the clubs I would have joined held their meetings during the day when I had to be at work.

A few months ago, it occurred to me that there were probably many other women in a similar situation and that the internet would be a wonderful way of being able to get in touch with each other - for women who have recently moved to a new area, for women who are restricted through family commitments (perhaps caring for elderly parents or a partner who is unwell), for young mothers, for women who have been recently widowed, for those who are housebound, for those who have retired, for women who work unsociable hours, for those whose children have flown the nest and for women who live in remote areas.

Together we have an enormous wealth of knowledge, experience and friendship to offer to each other. I hope that Henpals will be useful, welcome and enjoyable to women everywhere.
